I am going to be honest with you my name isn’t Mikey, my real name is Makayla. The reason why I call myself Mikey is because that is my nickname and a name that has been with me for years. But back to my passion, I am a writer and have been since I was thirteen-years-old, I started writing short stories and the moved onto writing a novel (it was never published). It wasn’t until I was fifteen that I started writing poetry, I fell in love with Edgar Allan Poe, Amanda Lovelace and a few other writers that I know personally. The reason why I am so passionate about my writing is because I write about my past, things that I have seen/done in my life and want to experience. I put my heart, soul, mind into my work and I love helping people understand that in this dark, confusing, scary world that there are people who are going through hard times too.
Even though I write about dark topics and my poetry touches a dark place, there is a positive light to everything. I hope is that when people read my work they get the feeling that they are not alone and that there is someone who is willing to put their heart out to the world for judgement and hope that things work out. I want people to be happy and to be inspired to start showing their true self to the world.
When writing I like to talk about my past and about things that I have gone through, it’s just that I don’t focus on the positive things.I write about dark times in my life with dealing with depression, anxiety, loss, etc. My poetry even though it talks about hard times and topics that are dark, they help me overcome my past and I learn who I am. I hope that some day I can show people my work and they can learn from my past and help themselves get better.
I am studying to become a journalist I still love writing my poetry and working on what makes me happy. In fact, that my back up plan if working in Media doesn’t work out or I lose my interest. The reason that I joined this program was because I want to help people and I want to talk about things that people don’t really touch upon. I want to talk about things like mental health, problems that face youth today, things in Ontario that people who are seen as social outcasts would enjoy, etc. I want someone to read your work and take away something from it.
